Try to use multiple units yet still able to hold on its own. Pincer Attack is overpowered in this game. Unless you’re like twice the number and high moral advantage, don’t let automatic battle happen if you’re in control. If you’re on number disadvantage, manually control battle. Dig in, dig deep, find friends, and you can make it out of there alive. I won't tell you to take the cut and run option, because Zhang Liao would never. Reach out on the other side of Cao Cao's forces to Ma Teng/Ma Chao as well, forcing a new front for Cao Cao to deal with. In your situation, try to get an alliance or at least ceasefire with one of the three: my suggestion is Yuan Shao and to a lesser extent Sun Quan. And then propose to Lu Bu an alliance with those leaders. Focus on one or two tactics that will boost your best units combat, or will heavily offset a poor units flaws (traps can help with, say, making archers able to defeat cavalry.)įor alliances, if your Zhang Liao isn't spending all his time training armies (which he SHOULD be) then have him go out to visit foreign leaders, if possible.

Being able to keep using powers against your enemies while they're beaten down is HUGE. Put battlefield buffs on your side, so things like boosting your morale or especially the tactic that boosts your command point gain. AI strategists to me often feel like they set up things that won't be useful. I've utterly destroyed armies 3 times my size with effective use of damaging fire/stun and pincers after they cross a bridge. Letting the enemy cross a bridge, then striking them on 3 sides right after they cross can be DEVASTATING. In battles, when outnumbered, make use of any chokepoints you can, and work to surround or at least pincer your enemies. The difference between a disorganized hodgepodge huge army and a small force made of friends supporting each other in combat can not be overstated. Bring in the most capable people you can find, they'll boost your stats AND good warriors will then be able to accompany you when you head to battle. Bond with other officers, open up that companion menu and attach them to yourself.
